Meeting 9

Action Items:
The following action items were agreed:
- It was agreed that Frank Fleming will begin looking at implementing a Fisheries Improvement Project for the Celtic Sea Herring fishery.
- A further meeting will be held on the 29th of March 2018 with a single agenda item of revising the Long Term Management Plan for the fishery.

Action Items:
The following action items were agreed:
- The CSHMAC to contact DAFM in relation to the 2018 quota proposals.
- Frank Fleming to contact Minister Michael Creed to arrange a meeting between the CSHMAC and the Minister.
- An extension to the fishery which will allow it to run to the 18th of December was agreed.
- Maurice Clarke and Frank Fleming to work on the possibility of an inshore survey in January 2018.

Action Items:
The following action items were agreed:
- A draft Code of Practice to be developed for the Sentinel Fleet in relation to the number of vessels booking in but not participating in the fishery.
- CSHMAC to draft a Client Action Plan for the Celtic Sea Herring fishery.
- Alan Mullery to work with the relevant entities with a view to allowing vessels to have the option to land at the South Deepwater Berth when Ringaskiddy is closed.

Action Items:
The following action items were agreed:
- The Chairman is to request a meeting with the Minister to discuss developments in the Irish Sea Herring Fishery and The Isle of Man issue.
- The Chairman to follow up with the department regarding tools to assist with the Whiting By-catch issue in the fishery.
- NIFF proposal from the previous meeting (to increase its fishery quota) should be brought to the attention of the Minister.

Action Items:
The following action items were agreed:
- Industry to work on developing a survey inside the Dunmore Box for the coming season.
- Chairman to contact DAFM to arrange a meeting regarding the serious issues the fishery has with the Whiting by-catch and to seek their help in rectifying same.
- NIFF to forward a proposal to all members regarding the Sentinel Fleet getting a larger fish quota and it could then be put on the Agenda of the next CSHMAC meeting for a formal discussion.

- A new website is developed which will contain key information from meetings in the future.
- The site is available at celticseaherring.com
- The CSH decided to proceed with the insurance proposal for Committee members.
- Contact details for vessels participating in the upcoming observer programme to be given to Enda Keogh the IW&DG co-ordinator.

Action Items:
The following action items were agreed:

- The actions required for Certification going forward for MSC Certification were discussed and CSHMAC will endeavour to ensure these will be fulfilled
- It was agreed to send a further copy of the letter in relation to the Sentinel share of the quota, which had been previously sent to Minister Coveney, to Minister Creed.
- The Chair will obtain further information in relation to putting insurance in place to cover the Committee and its members
- It was agreed that an application would be made to the Department to utilise the 2% scientific quota to fund an industry scouting survey

Fishery Improvement Project
The Celtic Sea Herring Management Advisory Committee has decided to implement a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP). The first step is to develop a Rebuilding Plan which is currently underway with the Marine Institute.
